Learnership Overview

The New Venture Creation Learnership Programme provides an opportunity for businesses to sponsor unemployed youth and/or people living with disabilities in a 12-month programme consisting of a series of workshops. Participants will be guided in compiling Portfolios of Evidence (PoEs) based on their workplace experience. These PoEs will be assessed and moderated, and upon being deemed competent, participants will be awarded a National Qualification.

Learnership Scope

The New Venture Creation is designed for aspiring or existing entrepreneurs. The programme provides the practical, administrative, and financial skills required to launch, manage, and grow a sustainable small-to-medium-sized enterprise (SMME). Those pursuing this qualification will acquire an array of technical, managerial, and personal proficiencies and tactics that will assist them in establishing and maintaining a business successfully. Upon successful completion, the learner will possess a solid basis for utilising their acquired knowledge and skills to explore various entrepreneurial prospects.

Key Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the New Venture Creation learnership programme, participants will be able to:

  • Match business opportunities to market needs, screening specific ideas against market conditions, and evaluating risk.
  • Identify and pursue viable business opportunities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategic business plans, operational frameworks, and workflows.
  • Apply financial management techniques to ensure sustainability
  • Determine startup infrastructure costs, establishing financial record-keeping systems, and monitoring profitability and cash flow
  • Understand economic principles and their impact on business
  • Interpret micro and macro-economic factors (such as inflation and interest rates) to make strategic business decisions.
  • Build effective teams and manage interpersonal relationships
  • Implementing team management practices, assigning workplace roles, and cultivating a proactive entrepreneurial profile.
  • Demonstrating professional business ethics, oral negotiation, and written communication for commercial contracts and tendering
