Learnership Overview

The Generic Management Learnership Programme provides an opportunity for businesses to enrol supervisors, new managers, and junior managers in a 12-month programme consisting of a series of workshops. Participants will be guided in compiling Portfolios of Evidence (PoEs) based on their workplace experience. These PoEs will be assessed and moderated, and upon being deemed competent, participants will be awarded a National Qualification.

Learnership Scope

The learnership is part of a structured learning pathway for management qualifications across various sectors and industries. It is specifically designed to equip participants with the essential management competencies required in any occupation, particularly for those overseeing first-line managers. This qualification further develops key management concepts, principles, and best practices, enabling participants to effectively lead, manage, organise, and control first-line managers and team leaders. Typically, participants will be managers responsible for supervising junior managers or team leaders. In smaller organisations or business units, they may primarily oversee supervisors and staff within their respective divisions or departments

Key Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the learnership programme, participants will understand:

  • Operational strategies, projects and action plans, and where appropriate, recommend changes within teams and/or
    the unit so as to improve the effectiveness of the unit.
  • Monitor and measure performance and apply continuous or innovative improvement interventions in the unit in order to attain its desired outcomes, including customer satisfaction, and thereby contribute towards the achievement
    of the objectives and vision of the entity.
  • Lead a team of first-line managers by capitalising on the talents of team members and promoting synergistic interaction between individuals and teams to enhance individual, team and unit effectiveness in order to achieve the goals of the entity.
  • Build relationships using communication processes both vertically and horizontally within the unit, with superiors and with stakeholders across the value chain to ensure the achievement of intended outcomes.
  • Apply the principles of risk, financial and knowledge management and business ethics within internal and external regulatory frameworks in order to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of the unit.

All evidence will be assessed in accordance with the general principles of assessment and the requirements for integrated assessment.
